And all the children sang.
Hmmm, where to start. How about the beginning. "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless..." Maybe that's a little to far back. Yesterday was one of those days that ranks right up there with your wedding or the birth of your child or something like that. I got up pretty early because I had a forensics meet. The meet went really well. I'm going to state and most of the rest of the team is as well so that's pretty exciting.
After the meet, Jenna's mom drove us to the gas station and we picked up some Coke and then she dropped me off at Blake and Evan's. I gave Evan the Coke because he drove me around all day and because in October I bought him a 2 liter as well so it just seemed fitting. I sort of sat around at their house quite a bit. They were housing some students and they had these really huge air mattresses in their basement and I slept on one of them. Then Jennifer came and we went to Jake's and got Jake. That made the car pretty cozy. That last sentence sounded creepy. My apologies. Anyhow, then we went to McDonalds and a couple people followed us and we were following Phil. It was like some sort of car train thing. We got to Madison and Phil got us free parking, which is great, because in the words of my good friend Captain Obvious, we didn't have to pay.
So then we walked around State Street and it was very enjoyable because I like State Street and it's even better with good people. As we were walking down State Street, we were looking in restaurants and shops and things and Evan says, "Hey, that guy looks like Lindsay Jamieson." That's not for sure a direct quote, but it's close enough. Then I think he realized that it actually was Lindsay Jamieson. Then I saw the guy across from him, he was wearing a really cool hat, that looked strangely familiar. It was Ben Folds. Everybody else figured it out as well. I think I was sort of speechless. I mean, I know he has to eat, but I was maybe eight feet from my idol. It was very sureal. He was just sitting there, in an Indian restaurant, by the window. It was incredibly amazing. We were going to go in and talk to him but Phil talked us out of it. Obviously, I regret that I didn't go in and talk to him because I have always wanted to thank him for his music, but I think if I had, I would have regretted it more. First of all, he was eating and it's really quite rude to go into a restaurant that you had no previous intentions of going into to interupt a guy while he's eating. Second, the present company wasn't right. I really do want to talk to him someday, but it has to be with only people who love his work as much as I do. I don't know if that comes across right, I think it does. At least we know where he likes to eat in Madison, so maybe when he comes back for another concert we can meet him then. That would be awesome.
Well, after awhile we went and got supper for ourselves at Qudoba which was yummy. Then we went and stood in line for an hour. It was a very interesting conversation. Blake, Evan, and Phil just sort of grilled me with awkward questions, well I guess they didn't think it was awkward, but I thougt it was strange that they cared so much. Oh well, it was somewhat amusing. I told them most of the stuff they wanted to know. It's weird because I know a lot of stuff. I know you're thinking that this is the part where I talk about how cool I am, but it's really not that cool. Knowing some things is good, but knowing everything is weird. People just tell me things and I've never understood why. For the most part I don't mind, I always have something to think about. I always kind of wonder who I'm supposed to tell things to. If everybody goes to me, where do I go? Anyways, I can't think of what else we talked about in line; just random stuff.
Then we went to the concert. We got pretty good seats. I don't really have a lot to go on as far as good seats at concerts, but I could see everything really well. My pictures turned out really well, for how dark it is because we were close to the front. Then we waited for awhile. Then Chris Mills came on. The first couple songs were pretty good. It was just him and him playing electric guitar, which has a really cool sound. I don't actually know about the rest of his songs up until the last one because I fell asleep. It's crazy, I can sleep anywhere, with any amount of noise, except at home at night when people normally sleep. I feel pretty bad about it. It seems like it was a pretty rude thing to do. Evan woke me up in time for his last song, which I really liked so that was good. After he got off the stage people came on and did their thing and I fell asleep again. Then Evan woke me up again when creepy grose make-out with Ben Folds's piano guy came on. I stayed awake after that because shortly Ben Folds was on.
I really can't come up with words that do justice to the amazingness of that concert. He played so many songs. Most of Songs for Silverman and a bunch from Rockin' the Suburbs. He also played a lot of Ben Folds Five which was a lot better this time because I actually knew most of it. They played Philosopyhy and One Angry Dwarf and Two Hundred Solemn Faces. He also played One Down, All You Can Eat, and quite a few other songs from his eps. It was so amazing. I think one of my favorite parts of the concert is when the band leaves and it's just him and the piano. The musicianship is just so amazing. He played Underground, by himself and the audience sang a lot of that and it sounded really good. He's just so amazing. It's incredible how he composes these really quality songs and yet they embody so much of the confusion of this generation. He has a song for every emotional state. I've yet to have a day where there wasn't a Ben Folds or Ben Folds Five song that could compliment it or make me feel better. He's amazing.
For awhile, he started talking about this animated animal movie that he's doing the music for. He played us the turtle's song and I really liked it. We are definately going to have to see the movie. He didn't finish the song. It was pretty funny because he's playing this awesome song and then he just stops and says, "That's enough of that, you get the idea."
For the encore, the band played the most incredible version of Rockin' the Suburbs I think I will ever hear. They played the body of the song and then Ben gets up and goes over and Mr. Reynolds gives him his bass and Ben played all of the crazy guitar stuff at the end. Mr. Reynolds did all of the dialogue and it was fantastic. I am seriously running out of adjectives. They played a couple of other things, which I feel really dumb because I forgot what they were. Someone leave a comment about those please.
It really was incredible. I was happy the entire day, even the parts I was sleeping I was happy. I was probably smiling while I slept although someone that saw me has to let me know about that one. So, if you get the chance, go see Ben Folds. It's a one of a kind experience.

I think I want to listen to Ben Folds just to be able to have the experience you guys had. It sounds truly amazing.
I'm not really sure why I got a blog, but I think that's how most blogs start. See you Thursday.
A Ben Folds Concert? Not sure if that could ever be as cool as seeing Unwritten Tragedy.
